World champion from the KUHN Group: Sandro Amrhein wins WorldSkills gold

Sandro Amrhein, construction machinery mechanic at KUHN Schweiz AG, won the gold medal in Heavy Vehicle Technology at WorldSkills 2026 in Shanghai. The KUHN Group congratulates its world champion.

From 22 to 27 September 2026, the world's best young professionals met in Shanghai for WorldSkills, the world championships of skills. In the Heavy Vehicle Technology category, Sandro Amrhein of KUHN Schweiz AG came out on top and claimed the world champion title.

From apprentice to world champion

Sandro completed his apprenticeship as a construction machinery mechanic (EFZ) at KUHN Schweiz AG in Lommis. His fascination with machines goes back to his childhood. SwissSkills 2025 paved his way to WorldSkills. He was supported by his trainer Martin Schär and, during workshop training, by Cedric Lang, WorldSkills champion 2024 in Lyon.

Hands-on training as a key to success

At KUHN, apprentices work independently at customer sites from the very beginning – exactly this practical experience prepared Sandro for the competition. He is currently training to become a diagnostic technician.
